Fichier Format

Each Fichier (chapter) follows the same format:

• A brief discussion in English—Asks students how they might carry out the writing task in their native language. (As they progress through the seven sections of each Fichier, they will engage in various phases of the writing process in French.)

  • Allows students to begin with easier generation of ideas.

• Démarrage —Explaining the writing task in French.

  • Prompts the student to start the thinking process in the target language.

• Traitement du sujet —Divided into 4 sub-sections: Réflexion —Brainstorming activities that students do alone. Discussion —Brainstorming activities that students do with classmates. Mise en place —Writing activities (on the computer or with pencil and paper) based on the ideas generated from the brainstorming sessions. Travail modèle —A model text followed by activities that help students understand the text and inspire them with new ideas.

Focusing on the development of writing competence, this brief manual is designed to help students generate ideas, write, edit, revise, and work with word processing as they learn to write in French. Using an approach that integrates speaking, reading, and writing skills, the text features communicative peer work; creative and personalized language work; computer activities for writing and revising; and customized instruments for evaluation.
