Description

Rest and retreat are essential parts of the spiritual life, but many Christian women find both elusive in the middle of lives busy serving families, churches, businesses, and communities. Rhythms of Rest provides a respite for you to simply be still and spend time with the Lord. These 40 meaningful devotions from leaders in Black and multicultural communities and churches invite you to pause and reflect on Scripture as you ponder topics like soul-care, sisterhood, seasons of life, and Spirit-led living. You'll find daily sustenance and strength from the personal stories, reflections, questions, quotes, and Scripture passages shared by your sisters in Christ.

Suzan Johnson Cook has served in many roles including pastor, author, activist, faith advisor, and keynote speaker with over 3,000 speeches to her credit. She was US Ambassador for International Religious Freedom and served as the principal advisor to the president and secretary of state, having 199 countries in her portfolio. Suzan was the first woman to serve as chaplain to the New York City police department, as well as the first and only female president of the historic Hampton University Ministers Conference, the largest gathering of African American clergy in the world. She served as pastor for three New York City congregations, including standing-room-only “Lunch Hour of Power” mid-week services and seminars for the business community.
God is a refuge for us. Selah —Psalm 62:8 ESV
Selah appears many times in the Psalms and it's frequently understood as a musical pause or rest. That's exactly what these 40 devotions will do for you  . . . give you the freedom in the middle of your go-go-go,  minute-by-minute schedule to just be with God, to pause and rest with Him. Take a few moments to hear from God, to relax in His love, and to remember His protection, provision, and promises.

You'll be renewed each day from the personal stories, reflections, questions, quotes, and Scripture shared by your sisters in Christ. Suzan Johnson Cook and fellow contributing authors are leaders and influencers within Black and multicultural communities and churches, and their devotional themes speak strength to a woman:

    Seasons of Life

    Soul-Care

    Self-Care

    Stillness

    Safe-Space Sisterhood

    Spirit-Led Living

    Success

    Starting Over

You do so much for your family, your church, and your world. Now do something for yourself! Rhythms of Rest invites you to retreat and renewal with your heavenly Father.

What a joy it is to finally realize that Rest can be woven into the Rhythm of life. Many probably have felt as I, that Rest comes after work is done. Oh my! How wrong I was! Read one devotional message each day and make Rest a part of your Rhythm. Dr. Sujay weaves Scripture, poetry, and ‘herstory’ into a calm and pleasant sojourn.
Suzan Johnson Cook has lovingly gathered together forty voices of faithful women who invite us to join them in pausing to rest in the midst of our very busy lives. This collection of devotions is a much-needed balm for our souls. A gem of a book to add to your own library and to share with others.
This is a game-changing book for women who desire to succeed at work and at rest. Rhythms of Rest is a stirring tribute to the lives of the amazing authors who have contributed to the text as well as the women around the world whose experiences mirror theirs. It’s a fascinating book filled with captivating stories that offer a prescription for a healthier, more spiritual, productive, and fulfilling life.
Rhythms for Rest is food for the soul. I can also count on Ambassador Sujay to bring spiritual healing—especially coming out of a devastating global pandemic. This precious book of devotions couldn’t come at a better time. Even accomplished women on the move need to take a breath. Let Go and Let God!
