  • Engages Students Through Accessible Writing – Clear writing, with carefully explained technical terms, helps readers understand basic philosophical ethics. Material throughout the text is presented in a lively and concise prose style, engaging students’ interests.
  • Connects Theory with Everyday Experiences – Abundant examples and cases help readers connect abstract ideas to everyday experiences. These examples also prompt students to make new connections and apply learning in practical settings. Examples include assisted suicide, compulsory vaccination, and the disposal of e-waste.
  • Provides Balanced Material – A comprehensive introduction to classical and contemporary ethics includes such diverse ideas as Utilitarianism, Deontology and Virtue Theory. The text also examines non-traditional material, including non-Western philosophies (Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and African Sage Tradtion) as well as post-modernist insights (Habermas, Foucault, Levinas and Roty).
  • Encourages Critical Engagement – Different viewpoints throughout the title challenge students to systematically develop their own views. Arguments in the text require readers to question their assumptions, encouraging them to critically assess established views.
